Text | We have been working on the McCalls and related families for over 40 years....we have more than 7,400 names in our file. The McCall's were early settlers of Butler County, Pennsylvania. RE: The response on the board on the 1870 Census on William W. McCall..........daughter: Martha, age 5.....this is not your Martha Jane McCall.........this is Martha Emma (Emaline) McCall, daughter of William Wasson McCall & Amy (McCandless)McCall. Martha Jane McCall's father was John McCall, brother of William Wasson McCall. Martha Emma McCall and Martha Jane McCall were first cousins....their fathers were brothers. Martha Jane McCall was the daughter of John McCall and Margaret Jane (Prior)McCall. Margaret Jane Prior died before 1860 and John McCall remarried to Angeline McCandless about 1861. In 1870 Martha Jane McCall was living with her family in Scioto County, Morgan Twp., P.O. Lucasville, Ohio. The 1870 Census of Scioto Co., Morgan Twp., Ohio is as follows: 1870 Census, Scioto Co., Morgan Twp., P.O. John McCall served in the Civil War, Co. G., 91st Ohio Infantry. RE: A. B. McCall...(Notes: by Hazel McCall, granddaughter of Andrew Black McCall).....Andrew Black McCall was the brother of John McCall. Their mother, Nancy Jane (Wasson) McCall, died when Andrew was twelve years old in 1850. Their father, William John McCall, then married the young girl who had worked for them and took care of the mother in her last illness. Her name was Jane (Brannan) Currie. She was the young widow of Frances Currie. Jane was younger than some of her new husband's children. Andrew said that Jane, his stepmother, mistreated him, so he took a change of clothing, some cold biscuits from the safe, tied these in a flour sack, ran a stick through it, put it over his shoulder and left for Ohio, where his brother, John, was already living.
