JOHN R. SUTTON, was born in Penn township, Butler county, in 1824, where the SUTTON family settled in 1815. He received a common school education, and learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed the greater portion of his life. In 1851 he married Elizabeth MARTIN, a daughter of Richard MARTIN, of Summit township, to which union were born eight children, as follows: Daniel H.; Annie M.; wife of Samuel FLEMMING; David B., deceased; William O.,; Samuel M.; George M.; Mary J., wife of Milton J. GRAHAM, and Harry R. Mr. SUTTON died upon his homestead in Penn township, in August, 1889. His widow is still living in Penn township. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church, and in poilitics, an adherent of the Demovratic party.
