[S34] 1883 History of Butler County, Pennsylvania.
Chapter 46, Clay Twp. In 1803, James BARTLEY, accompanied by his wife, came from Ireland and settled in the central part of Butler County. He was the father of eleven sons and one daughter. David the seventh child of the family, was born in 1815. On attaining his majority, he followed brick-making for a considerable period, and made the brick of which "Concord Church" is constructed. His first wife was Sarah a daughter of Hugh WASSON. About 1846, he purchased of his father-in-law a tract of unimproved land, being the same premises still occupied by him. His first wife did not long survive, and he afterward married a Miss PHILLIPS who is still with him. He is the father of eight children, all of whom are living.
